A study in stillness and movement — three boats float like memory fragments on electric blue waters.
This original dry pastel painting by Saikat Mondal presents a bold, luminous interpretation of a timeless riverside image — three wooden boats, semi-anchored, surrounded by glistening, abstract water strokes. With every mark on the paper, the artist evokes the texture of shifting light and the tension between anchorage and drift.
The composition is tight, dynamic, and unusually saturated — cobalt, lilac, amber, and gold dominate the frame. The boats themselves are rendered in earthy ochres and blacks, hinting at aged timber, perhaps once used and now resting. Their angles are diagonal, creating a feeling of gentle instability — as though they might set off again with the next wind.
There is no human figure. Yet the presence of the absent boatman is felt in the tilt of the vessels, the echo of routine, and the tactile immediacy of the medium. This is a meditative painting — vibrant, modern, but rooted in the slow rhythms of Bengal’s river life.
