Moon Ripple – Original Dry Pastel Painting by Saikat Mondal

Light falls, a ripple begins — and memory never stops moving.

In Moon Ripple, Saikat Mondal offers one of his most distilled visual meditations — a swirling surface of moonlight on water, where the form is reduced to ripple, shadow, and scattered reflection. Executed in dry pastel, this work uses only a few tonal elements: indigo, cobalt, black, and a glowing amber that might be moonlight or a lantern, depending on how long you look.

This is not a scene but a surface of thought — a place where the water becomes mirror, memory, and motion all at once. The gesture of the spiral suggests time; the smudged golds feel like silence touching light. It draws from Bengal’s quiet ponds and nightscapes, but also from something more interior — a personal stillness disturbed only by noticing.

Framed in wood with an acrylic sheet, this piece belongs in quiet spaces: beside a reading chair, near a window, or anywhere someone might sit and look for longer than expected.
